A lady named Cindy Jackson broke the record in 1998 for purchasing the most expensive cat. Her F2 Bengal Cat Cato was sold to Cindy Jackson by Lord C. Esmond Gay for approximately $42,000.
Although Cato was the record holder in the Guinness Book in February 1998 the record has been surpassed. According to the Guinness Book Cindy Jackson paid $41,435.00.
