Annuals - Celosia

Celosia is available in the crested and plume variety. The crested Celosia is commonly known as Cockscomb. The proper name for the crested variety is C. cristata. The plumed Celosia is C. plumosa. Celosia has dwarf varieties and as you will see in the pictures below Amazon Celosia.

The image below depicts the crested Celosia which should be planted in a sunny area with good soil conditions.

Crested Celosia

This is the plumed variety which possesses feathery spikes although this picture is the Amazon Celosia at the side of my house.

Celosia Plumes

This pretty little dwarf Celosia has feathery spikes and attains a height of approximately nine to twelve inches.

Dwarf Celosia

Pictured below is my Amazon Celosia. These wonderful plants love dry feet, attain a height of approximately ten feet or more and bloom in late summer. They are magnificent with their wine colored foliage and gigantic plumes. The Amazon Celosia self seeds rewarding the gardener with new plants each year.

Amazon Celosia

Also you can collect the seeds in fall and sprinkle to specific areas in the spring to create this majestic Amazon Celosia appearance.
