Annuals - Foxglvoe / Digitalis

Why are Foxgloves (Digitalis) listed as annuals? They are biennials; however you can purchase annual Digitalis. The annual Digitalis is usually referred to as 'Foxy'. These phenomenal beauties can be displayed yearly in humus rich soil, partial shade and will tolerate sun. They are a perfect addition to any property.

Foxglove - Digitalis

I am overwhelmed with the beauty of Digitalis. The common name is Foxglove. The botanical name is Digitalis. The detail and coloring plus the height attained which is usually between three to five feet create a spectacular display.

To provide constant blooms with biennial Digitalis, purchase a few plants this year and purchase more next year. This practice enables the gardener to enjoy their dramatic blooms every year. Otherwise you have a year with no blooms because biennial means the plant blooms every two years.

Foxglove - Digitalis

A common biennial is 'Excelsior' which attains a height of approximately five feet with gorgeous bell shaped flowers that resemble little gloves for your fingers. Digitalis is a spectacular plant with colors of white, yellow, pink, orange and purple.
