Shade Gardens
The picture below depicts the tree with the lower branches intact and the second image displays the new look of the tree. I was on a mission to create something interesting under the tree however the shade garden combined with the acidic soil created by the tree minimizes choices for the bed.
Although saddened by the loss of the lower limbs, the silver lining in this cloud is the benefit of additional space for assorted plants. The challenge is locating suitable specimens to create a medley of color, texture and height which will of course add varying points of interest under the tree.
